Coach Montana Butsch’s background in rowing began in 1994. His introduction to the sport occurred at Loyola Academy where he was a member of the rowing team from his sophomore though senior years. After helping his Loyola Academy crew win the Midwest Championship in 1997 and to place 9th nationally, he was recruited to the University of Pennsylvania where he earned his varsity letter in rowing in 2001. A short time after graduation from the University of Pennsylvania, he moved to London and was admitted to the graduate studies program at England’s Oxford University.
His rowing career at Oxford University included participation in the prestigious Oxford vs. Cambridge Boat Race held annually in Putney, England. Mr. Butsch 's boat won both times: in the pair in 2003 and in the eight (ISIS) in 2004.
Montana gained racing experience under and was mentored by world renowned coaches, including Peter Haining, Sean Bowden, Stan Bergman, and Jim McCartney. His past coaching experience includes Loyola Academy, Thames RC (London) and Lincoln College (Oxford University).
